Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) Training For Lecturers

CBC Training for Laikipia University lecturers kicked off on 22nd August, 2023 at Mandela Hall and Computer Laboratory consecutively. The session was officially launched by Prof. Kibett Rotich and encouraged members to be ready to learn a lot concerning the Competency Based Education (CBE). He also urged everyone that change and adoption of the new learning model is inevitable.

There were also remarks from the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, Research and Student Affairs, Chair – CBC Implementation Committee and the T3 Alliance members. The training was conducted by Mr. Richard Delorenzo , Ms. Roxanne Mourant and Dr. Silas Wandera and was well attended by Deans of School, Directors, Chairperson of Departments and all the lecturers. The topics covered were The Meaning of a Competency Based Curriculum and Values and Beliefs that support the Competency Based Curriculum.

The sessions were engaging as the participants asked questions regarding the topic in discussion like how can the CBC be used in teaching theory oriented subjects like History or Theology, How to cater for individual differences among learners regardless of their abilities and also how to teach using the Curriculum in a lecture Hall with many students. The mode of training itself was CBC based as it included mostly practical on several aspects. The session was a success for the day as the participants gave their feedback via writing their comments and it was closed by Dr. Peter Kariuki.
